Xbox 360 to go Blu-ray

Not a month goes by where we don’t have some rumour surfacing about the Xbox 360 getting a Blu-ray drive… only this one seems likely.

X-bit Labs are letting out information that Microsoft already will be making an external Blu-ray player for their loved Xbox 360 console.

As it happens at the moment, the Xbox 360 probably has more pulling power in the console war. But with a lack of any high-definition playback now that the HD-DVD player Microsoft backed is truly dead (though I still like mine), the tide could slowly turn in the favour of Sony.

However the news is that Toshiba – maker of the failed Blu-ray rival HD-DVD – and Samsung have an Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive ready and are just waiting on Microsoft to pick a release date.

Interestingly, if Toshiba & Samsung have worked out a way to bring Blu-ray to the 360 then it means that maybe Toshiba is over the whole “we lost” thing and that they’ll actually put Blu-ray drives in things that need them.

Like the Qosmio laptops. Seriously. They need them too.
