SD Cards Recalled

A couple of Garmin SD cards are set for recall

Two Garmin marine cartography data cards are on the federal governments recall list due to incorrect information.

They cards store information on are marine charts that allow the user to view data such as water depth, channel markers, tides, currents and other marine navigation information on a monitor mounted on the dashboard of a boat. The user inserts the SD card into their navigation device and then views the marine charts for the area they are navigating on the screen.

The full list of BlueChart g2 Vision and BlueChart g2 Garmin proprietary cards that are on the list are here.

The inaccuracies on the cards could theoretically lead to boats going aground which, in certain circumstances, could lead to risk of personal injury.

In certain waters, there are potential inaccuracies in the way that the products’ charting presents depth contours and depth areas, resulting in the depiction of water depth as deeper than the actual depth under certain display conditions.
