Phishing is whereby cybercriminals set up websites that are identical in look to the real website of a financial institution such as a bank. They then send out spam emails in the hope of trapping people into sending in personal details such as passwords or pin numbers.

The top three targets of crims were the USA, UK and Italy, with China rounding out the top five.
Countries with the most phishing sites were the United States, China, Brazil, Russia and the UK. This data is based on where the IP addresses are, which doesn’t necessarily mean that is where the phishers are from because they can use several methods to reroute the source of the scams through other countries.

Cities that host the most phishing domains, in order, are San Diego, Taipai, Taichung, Chicago and Houston.
