JH (Jong-Hee) tells us that innovation is no longer one-size-fits-all. Expect Samsung to have more customisable devices to work in more personal spaces working together seamlessly (connectivity). They should make your life easier you can do more of the things you love.

TV has gone beyond the screen. It is now about customisable personal technologies coming to life across our home appliances, mobile devices and screens everywhere. Samsung wants to help create a secure yet open connectivity ecosystem where everything can talk to everything else.

We will update this article as announcements come to hand. As usual, not all items will come to Australia.

Samsung TV – 4K Micro-LED is the pinnacle

No, not Mini-LED but Micro-LED using far smaller 25um (about human hair size) LEDs that produce light and colour individually. Samsung will show off the 89, 101 and 110” versions. These are 100% DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB for the best LED-based image yet. Don’t ask the price – just bask in the bright and vibrant picture quality. An interesting feature is simultaneously displaying 4 x 4K@120Hz images from the 4 x HDMI 2.1 ports.

Neo QLED – Mini-LED and Quantum Dot

The TV can now control its mini-LED backlighting up to 16,384 steps, quadrupled from the previous 4,096 steps. New AI (Neo Quantum Processor) analyses lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of light (dimming zones) from the Quantum Mini-LEDs. This enhances the brightness and accuracy of all shapes on the screen. It also processes an object on the screen against its background to create a greater sense of depth.

New Object tracking sound (OTS) with up-firing speakers gives realistic movement.

Lifestyle TVs – Frame, Serif and Sero

Updates to the Frame include anti-glare, low-reflection panel technology featuring an embossed, matte display from 32-85”.

Serif gets a similar matte display and comes in 43-65”.

Sero (landscape and portrait TV) gets the new display and multi-view multi-tasking function.

Smart Hub and more apps

All Samsung 2022 TVs have a new Smart Hub that puts content curation (based on your viewing habits) and discovery front and centre with their viewing preferences. The Smart Hub’s sidebar also allows for a seamless transition between categories – Media, Game (Gaming Hub) and Ambient.

The Smart hub supports landscape and portrait modes and an autorotation wall mount.

Soundbars

Q-Symphony three-dimensional audio experience allows Samsung’s Neo QLEDs and soundbars to work together, has been improved with added synchrony. This enables the soundbar and TV speakers to work together, providing a more expansive soundscape.

Some models feature Wireless Dolby Atmos (Samsung supports HDR10+ but does not support Dolby Vision) to remove the need for an HDMI 2.1 cable.

ZEPETO – interacting with smart home appliances in the metaverse

We will let the release tell you all about this. It portends how we might interact with Samsung in the My House metaverse.

New Monitors Odyssey Neo G8, Smart Monitor M8 and UHD Monitor S8

The 32” Odyssey Neo G8 (G85NB) is its first mini-LED, 4K, 1000R curved screen with up to 240Hz refresh and 1ms GtG. It has an impressive 2000 nit peak (about 500 nits typical) AND 1M:1 contrast enabling it to reproduce HDR2000 display (different from HDR TV standards). CoreSync lighting on the backside of the monitor automatically detects screen colours and projects them to create a deeper sense of immersion. Spectacular monitor designed for gamers.

The 32” 4K Smart Monitor M8 joins the smart range with built-in Samsung Smart TV, remote control and productivity apps enabling entertainment and cloud work, able to perform some PC tasks. The M80B has a flat panel with 400 nits typical brightness, 10-bit 1 billion colours and 99% sRGB colour gamut. A movable magnetic SlimFit Cam supports the most popular calling apps, including Google Duo. A USB Type-C port has 65W upstream power.

The UHD 4K Monitor S8 (S80PB) comes in a 27 and 32” flat panel and has 98% DCI-P3 and is rated as HDR 600 display. A new matte panel significantly reduces glare. It has USB Type-C 90W upstream and a LAN.
