HTC VIVE today announced the Australian launch of HTC VIVE Eagle AI glasses that deliver hands-free wearable technology.
HTC VIVE Eagle provides translation, smartphone AI, photography, and videography built-in, allowing you to stay in the moment without using your phone.
Designed to look stylish, not techy, the glasses come with Zeiss lenses with sunglass, blue light filtering, and adaptive photochromic options, with prescription lenses available through Lenswap.
HTC says privacy is at the core of its philosophy, ensuring users that user data is not used for training purposes, and that visible recording indicators help protect the wearer and people around them.
Privacy first
The HTC VIVE Eagle AI smart glasses are designed to capture moments while ensuring recording is transparent to other people. A visible LED light indicates when the glasses are recording, automatically adjusting brightness to remain visible in different conditions.
HTC says a multi-sensor approach ensures the glasses cannot film when the LED is obscured or when they are not being worn. The glasses also listen for a “stop filming” voice command by the wearer or those around them to end a recording.
Technology built-in
Open-ear directional speakers in the arms and four built-in microphones provide excellent call quality and allow the wearer to listen to music while staying aware of surroundings.
VIVE AI allows the glasses to conduct live speech translation for real time conversation. Users can also translate written text such as signs and restaurant menus through image-to-text translation.
The glasses can also create detailed meeting notes through audio recording and transcription. Users can choose between Google Gemini or OpenAI GPT through the VIVE Connect app.
HTC says VIVE Eagle provides 4 to 6 hours of active use and up to 36 hours of standby time. Its magnetic charging design means the glasses can be used while charging. Fast charging provides 50 percent battery in just 10 minutes and 80 percent in 23 minutes.
The optional extra VIVE Power Boost battery bank seamlessly attaches to the glasses and provides up to 80 percent additional battery life at just 8 grams of extra weight.
HTC VIVE Eagle pricing and availability
VIVE Eagle is available for preorder now from VIVE.com for RRP $799 and goes on sale from 14th September at select Harvey Norman stores. Further retailers are to follow.
The glasses are available in either Square or Pantos styles, with three lens options. Colours include Black, Coffee, Berry, Charcoal Black, Clear Brown, and Navy.
The VIVE Power Boost battery pack is available for an additional $79 from VIVE.com or Harvey Norman.
Subscription costs
To access the glasses’ AI features, a subscription is needed.
VIVE AI Plus is included with the glasses for two years, after which the plan will cost $4.99 per month or $49.90 per year. This provides access to translation in up to 12 languages and 100 credits of AI use per month.
The VIVE AI Pro subscription costs $15.99 per month or $159.90 per year and includes 400 credits of AI use per month in addition to a wider range of translation languages, automatic language detection during live translation, adjustable text-to-speech speed, and more.
