Yahoo has just unveiled its new app for iOS that integrates Summly Summaries of news stories.

The summaries are displayed in a newsfeed with background images that stretch the entire width of the iPhone’s screen. Search is also said to be improved for both videos and images. Users can now drill down to different categories, select interesting topics and even flag content that they don’t like.

For users who are logged in with their Yahoo IDs, the choices they make in terms of search inside the app will also be reflected in the desktop as well as on mobile. The app is currently available to US users and will roll out soon to international users.

Yahoo has been very active in the tech space lately, making headlines over the weekend as it shuts down several of its projects in order to focus on the development of apps such as its recently launched weather and mail apps for the iPhone and iPad.

And it seems Yahoo isn’t done yet. The integration of Summly into Yahoo News feeds is one good example at how the company is transforming itself to compete with other brands in the market. Another acquisition of Yahoo that might make another appearance in one of the company’s services or apps is Jybe which it acquired just last month. As to what Yahoo is planning for Jybe and its other acquisitions is something that we’ll just have to wait until the next big announcement.
