Xmas Comes To iPhone

The traditional advent calendar has come as an application to the iPhone – let the countdown begin!

The Advent Calendar, a countdown to Christmas that began in the early 19th century, is now available as an iPhone application.

The Advent calendar, which starts its countdown on the first of December, is two pieces of cardboard on top of each other. There are 24 windows or doors cut into the top cardboard and each day in December, one can be opened to reveal a Christmas story, activity or paraphernalia.

Designed by obii.mobi, an Australian iPhone application design house, its version of the calendar is designed to reinvigorate an old tradition in a modern way and bring some fun to the festive season. The Christmas Advent Calendar Application allows Apple iPhone users to open an advent window each December day to reveal practical craft directions, recipes or activity ideas designed to inspire and entertain during the Christmas season.

Activities include making hanging snowflakes, paper lanterns, Christmas cookies, Christmas Chai, a wish list tree, Christmas Spirit ideas and many more. All activities are suitable for families or individuals, and are fun, quick to make and require readily available materials. Each activity is accompanied with carefully written step-by-step instructions and has been photographed to inspire and guide users.

There are no religious references throughout the Advent although en masse these activities are sure to rekindle or encourage Christmas spirit – that of caring, giving, sharing and plenty of fun.
