WordPress.com seems to be the blogging platform of choice for a lot of consumers at least when it comes to bloggers who want a new platform and is concerned on how to migrate their content easily from their existing blogs.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Automattic’s Matt Mullenweg revealed that WordPress.com has imported over 15 million posts in the last 30 days with special thanks to Posterous users who have started migrating the content of their blogs since Twitter announced that it is closing the blogging service after its acquisition last year.

According to Mullenweg, there are about 2 million posts from Posterous have been imported into WordPress.com ever since the April 30th shutdown date was announced. The biggest contributors to the 15 million imported posts were mainly Blogger and Tumblr users with residual amounts from Movable Type and LiveJournal. He also points out the reason why a lot of Blogger and Tumblr users are switching to WordPress is that although both platforms are good at introducing people to blogging, users quickly run into their limitations and look for a more flexible platform.

Another feature of WordPress.com that makes it very attractive to bloggers is the apparent ease and convenience of exporting content and posts. Moreover, it supports the exportation of data from other platforms and can run on a lot of web hosts available on the internet.
