Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to be released just before the year ends but rumours are now spreading across the internet that Microsoft’s operating system for smartphones may soon make a leap into tablet territory.

According to reports, the Windows Phone 8.1 update, codenamed “Blue” could add support for devices up to 10 inches in size. At present, reports about the upcoming GDR3 Windows Phone update hints that the OS will be providing support for devices with 5- to 6-inch screens, so it’s quite interesting to hear that this limit might be increased further.

However, it’s also good to note that Microsoft is also making 10-inch tablets that have different operating systems (Windows RT and Windows Pro) and making 10-inch WP8 devices will directly compete with the company’s current line of tablets; unless of course Microsoft plans to merge Windows RT and Windows Phone in the future. So we do advise taking this news with a bit of scepticism.
