Microsoft has just confirmed that the company will release a developer version of Windows 8.1, codenamed “Blue” by the end of June.

The confirmation was made by Windows Chief Julie Larson-Green at the Wired Business Conference yesterday. The release will be available during the company’s BUILD developer conference next month at San Francisco’s Moscone Center from June 26th to June 28th.

The company is also expected to ship the final build of the operating system due before the end of the year. Another Windows executive by the name of Tami Reller confirmed that Microsoft is also planning changes for Windows 8.1 in reaction to some customer feedback – possibly the Windows Start button.

Earlier in April, images of an early version of Windows Blue leaked through a Polish forum site and revealed many of the update’s new features including changes in tile sizes, improved power efficiency, speech recognition and a few improvements in the control panel options to enable users to make changes without going to the desktop control panel.
