Microsoft has just confirmed today that the company will soon bring Windows 8 to smaller devices.

The statement was made by Microsoft’s CFO Peter Klein during the company’s Q3 2013 earnings call today. He also added that the company will soon enable its OEMs to install Windows 8 on smaller and more affordable devices and that Microsoft is working on expanding and improving the Windows 8 experience beyond the Surface.

Earlier this week, Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini announced that their company’s new Bay Trail chip will start to push laptop prices down up to the $200 mark. Windows 8 and the PC market in general have experienced a decline in sales with majority of PC manufacturers pinning the blame on Windows 8.

At the end of the day, whether or not a cheaper Windows 8 device comes our way, in a world currently ruled by tablets and smartphones running on Android and iOS, is there still a place for the PC? What do you think? Share with us your thoughts by leaving a comment below.
