Computer users wanting to download the Beta of Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 7 were faced with lengthy delays due to product demand.

A virtual queue formed online in the hours before the planned release of Windows 7 Beta – with Microsoft saying the demand has been “phenomenal”. So huge was the demand for downloads that Microsoft delayed the release to add further servers to cope with demand.

Users wishing to download the beta version of the new Operating System have till the end of the month to do so.

Microsoft claims Windows 7 will have improved features such as touch screen, but without losing compatibility for older software and devices – unlike Vista which posed many issues for users regarding backward compatibility upon its release.
