Windows 10 is now available as a free upgrade for all Windows 7 and Windows 8 owners, but those building their own system, creating a new Bootcamp partition on a Mac, or upgrading an older machine (running Vista or XP) still have to pay. Microsoft is charging AUD$179 for Windows 10 Home, and AUD$299 for Windows 10 Pro.
Windows 10 Home will be the right choice for most users, with Windows 10 Pro adding in more business centric features such Active Directory support, enhanced encryption and the ability to create virtual machines using Hyper-V.
Windows 10 has the following system requirements:
Processor: 1GHz or faster
RAM: 1GB for 32-bit; 2GB for 64bit
HDD: Up to 20GB of free space required
Video Card: 800 x 600 screen resolution, DirectX9 compatible GPU
While customers can purchase Windows 10 directly through Microsoft's website, boxed copies won't be available until later this year.
"Windows 10 software will become broadly available in retail stores between mid-August and September around the world," said a Microsoft spokesperson.
