WeMo Insight Switch now available in Australia, Belkin partners with Bunnings
Belkin's energy monitoring WeMo Insight Switch is now available in Australia for AUD$99, and customers won't just find it in traditional gadget retailers, they'll also find it in Bunnings.
As of mid-July, Belkin has been made its WeMo range of smart home appliances available through 160 Bunnings stores across Australia. The new WeMo Insight Switch will sit alongside the WeMo Switch, the WeMo Switch+Motion, the WeMo Light Bulb and the WeMo Maker on the hardware stores’ shelves.
"We believe that WeMo is the ‘on-ramp’ to the Internet of Things, and will play a key role in connecting consumers, delivering what might otherwise be a complex or daunting situation in a very approachable and cost-effective experience," said Belkin ANZ's Managing Director Stephanie Ogden.
"A key element of de-mystifying technology is awareness and education, which is what makes our expansion into Bunnings particularly exciting. Their passion for home improvement and willingness to showcase and demonstrate the benefits of home automation makes them a great fit."
In addition to giving users the ability to turn appliances on and off, the WeMo Insight Switch is able to monitor energy usage. The Switch is provides inights such as when the connected device was last on, the amount of time it was on for during the day, the time the device is kept on during an average day, and the operating cost.
Using this data, the WeMo Insight Switch is able to trigger notifications when a device has been turned on for a certain amount of time, or used a specified amount of energy. These can be funnelled through recipe service IFTTT in order to interact with other smart home devices.
The WeMo Insight Switch is also available through JB Hi-Fi.
