Wellness and Fitness apps have seen a rise in popularity in recent years as mobile devices become ever more powerful and versatile and information is now readily accessible thanks to the openness of the internet.

But among the major mobile platforms in the market (at least the three with the major market share), Windows Phone has the least selection of fitness apps. That is, until today, as Microsoft announced Bing Health & Fitness Beta.

The app uses a GPS tracker to record time, distance, pace and calories burned while doing activities such as walking, running or biking. But unlike its rivals in iOS and Android, the fitness tracker also keeps data of your food intake.

The app can help users manually record their diet with a list of 300000 foods listed in its database. This database also contains hundreds of workouts and exercises delivered with step-by-step instructions, photos and videos.

The app is now free for download on the Windows Phone Store. The app is also part of a suite of apps, which should launch soon including Bing Travel and Bing Food and Drink.
