Virgin Atlantic has sacked a number of its cabin crew after they posted comments on Facebook about passengers being ‘chavs’ and Virgin aircraft as being underpar…
The airline has insisted that the sacking was necessary as the staff’s behaviour was totally inappropriate and “brought the company into disrepute”.
Virgin Atlantic is owned by billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin group.
According to reports by the BBC, Virgin Atlantic began investigating the staff after the Facebook entries were brought to the company’s attention last Thursday. The Facebook postings claimed that not only were customers ‘chavs’ but that Virgin aircraft were infested with cockroaches and that the airline’s jet engines were replaced four times in one year.
Following the investigation, Virgin released a statement confirming the staff member’s dismissal.
“Virgin Atlantic can confirm that 13 members of its cabin crew will be leaving the company after breaking staff policies due to totally inappropriate behaviour.
“Following a thorough investigation, it was found that all 13 staff participated in a discussion on the networking site Facebook, which brought the company into disrepute and insulted some of our passengers.”
