Twitter finally unveiled today its #Music service on iOS and on the web.

It’s basically a music recommendation engine that’s incorporated into your twitter account. The app recommends new music to users based on who they follow and uses third-party music services like Rdio, Spotify and iTunes to play either a 30-second preview of these recommendations or play the full track once you sign in using your account to either Rdio or Spotify.

The app will also be able to track what your friends are listening to and see recommendations made by artists and bands you follow. The Now Playing section shows users what music people they follow have tweeted, there’s also a popular section that recommends music based on the current top trending artists on twitter. Users can also check out the Emerging section for up-and-coming artists.

However, it’s good to note that recommendations made the app are of course limited by the number of artists or bands you follow. If you happen to not follow any artist or band, then the number of recommendations for you will be of course limited.

Nevertheless, the app offers a good way for people to discover new music and works even better if you have a Rdio or Spotify account. Whether or not the new service will become a success is dependent on how Twitter would improve it without relying too much on third-party services.
