Twitter just like Facebook serves information to its members through a chronological list of updates and posts from users and businesses called a news feed. And for quite some time now, Facebook has allowed its users to filter these feed by letting them choose which people or brands in their network not to include in their list by means of an unfollow or unsubscribe feature.

Today, Twitter is adopting the same technology into their website and mobile apps by introducing the “Mute” feature. This new functionality will allow users to have more control over the content they see on the social network and works similarly as the favourite users function on Twitter.

Once a person is muted, his/her post will no longer be shown on the user’s timeline. Although the muted user will still be able to see your post, favourite them, reply to them or retweet them. The good thing is that the muted user will not know that another user has muted them and the process is reversible in case you decide you want to see their tweets again in the future.

According to Twitter, the mute function will soon roll out to everyone using the social network’s website and mobile apps.
