TV and movie downloads coming to the PS3

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Phil Harrison has admitted that the platform holder is looking to introduce movie and television downloads onto PS3.

Speaking to 1up.com, Harrison said: “The decision we made to put a hard drive in every PlayStation 3 was because we saw the long term benefit; the ten year plan of allowing people to download all kinds of digital content to their PlayStation 3 – not just games but movies, music, HD, standard definition TV, you name it.”

“I think PlayStation 3 needs to stand for gaming and digital entertainment in the living room pushing the envelope of high definition, pushing the envelope of broadband, and of course that includes more than just games.”

Microsoft has already introduced a HD movie and TV download service in the US over Live Marketplace on Xbox 360.
