The Surface Book is Microsoft’s first laptop

Microsoft this morning unveiled the Surface Book, its first ever notebook, and a device it is calling the "ultimate laptop".

Keeping in line with its Surface lineage, the Surface Book's screen is removable and can be used as a standalone tablet. Users also have the option of flipping the screen around and re-attaching it in reverse, in a similar manner to convertibles such as the Toshiba Portege Z20t.

"What if you wanted a Surface, you wanted a laptop Surface?" asked Microsoft Corporate Vice President Panos Panay during the device's reveal. "Something with a bigger screen, something with the perfect typing experience of a laptop?"

"That's what we did. That's what I am about to show you. We made the ultimate laptop. We made Surface Book."
