Telstra Samsung Galaxy S5 owners to receive Lollipop update on June 1

Samsung Galaxy S5 owners who purchased their handset through Telstra are due to receive a long-awaited upgrade to Lollipop, the latest version of Android, on June 1. The update is scheduled for approval today, according to the Telstra Crowd Support forums.

Telstra-branded Galaxy S5s will the first to recieve the update in Australia. Vodafone is testing its own Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5, but a deployment date has yet to be confirmed. At present, there is no word on when Optus-branded Galaxy S5 handsets or handsets purchased outright through Samsung or other local retailers will receive the Lollipop update. Neither Optus nor Samsung appear to be testing the new software.

Lollipop's key new features include a revamped notification system, Google's Material Design user interface and the ability to unlock a phone with a paired Bluetooth device.
