Telco Going To Court

Telco is alleged to have breached Do Not Call Register Act

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has filed proceedings against Australian telecommunications company gotalk Communications Pty Ltd (gotalk) in the Federal Court alleging numerous breaches of the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 by making calls to telephone numbers listed on the Do Not Call Register.

The ACMA will allege that gotalk engaged two offshore call centres which made more than 40,000 telemarketing calls to numbers on the Register.

This is the first time the ACMA has taken a company to the Federal Court for contraventions of the Act.
