Susan Boyle Tops YouTube List

The most watched video of 2009 was of a 47-year-old Scottish spinster who the public took to heart

YouTube today announced its first official most watched lists, a look at 2009 through the videos Australians and the world were watching and searching for.

“From a new singer’s debut on the world stage to newly-weds dancing down the aisle, YouTube offers everyone a way to experience and share in the big and small moments that touch millions of people around Australia and the world,” said Kate Vale, Head of YouTube for Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to global content, some Aussie-generated content attracted hundreds of thousands of views in 2009.

YouTube also examined the billions of queries that people typed into YouTube search in 2009 to identify some of the fastest-rising search terms for each month. Like Google Zeitgeist, these lists reveal the interests, issues, and entertainment that connected the world throughout the year.
