David Anthony McIntosh the Computer Engineer behind the cyber sabotage of Northern Territory government computer systems revealed his actions were motivated by revenge.

The hacker, who allegedly caused millions of dollars worth of damage to government computers sought vengeance because his boss had caused him to feel isolated at work.

McIntosh said he felt “isolated” at his desk as his boss had positioned him away from other colleagues – he also didn’t believe he should be disciplined for his mistakes as he was a “newbie”. He included these reasons in his letter of resignation. McIntosh felt his segregation from the team lead to his stress.

The prosecution has alleged that after his resignation, McIntosh instigated the crash of multiple servers including those at the Supreme Court and the Royal Darwin Hospital. He also deleted more than 10,000 public servants records from the system.
