Stooges guitarist found dead

Ron Asheton, guitarist and founding member of groundbreaking rock act, Iggy and the Stooges was found dead in his Ann Arbor home last night.

Ron Asheton, guitarist and founding member of groundbreaking rock act, Iggy and the Stooges was found dead in his Ann Arbor home last night.

According to Ann Arbor Police Sargeant Brad Hill, Asheton, 60, was found on his couch and appeared to have been dead for several days,. Police were alerted to the guitarist’s possible demise when an aquaintance reported they had been unable to contact Asheton for a number of days.

Asheton is survived by his brother Scott (the original drummer for The Stooges).The pair were founding members of the band along with front-man Iggy Pop.

Asheton reunited with his band mates in 2003 and the band have gone on to perform a successful comeback tour and release a new album in 2007.
