The iOS app for Spotify – a major online music streaming service for multiple platforms, received a major update today that improves user experience and navigation for subscribers.
The updated version of the app features the addition of a sidebar that helps users conveniently navigate the app with a simple left-to-right gesture or by simply tapping on the context menu button at the top left of the screen.
The app also adds a “Now Playing” bar to allow users to always see what their listening wherever they are in the app. Moreover, the now playing bar offers additional functionality by allowing users to switch tracks with a simple swipe or view track information by tapping the bar itself.
Tapping the cover art in the extended view also allow users to use AirPlay, and disable/enable shuffle and repeat. A redesigned context menu can also be seen whenever the “…” button is tapped.
Lastly, the updated app provides several fixes for known bugs in the previous version such as the “Track only available online” issues that appear after start-up or when a user had been offline for a little while, the lockscreen issue which fails to display the correct track on the device’s locskcreen and the shuffle issue caused when using the Shuffle Play option or after playing an album or playlist.
The app is now available for free in the Apple App Store.
