Online audio distribution platform SoundCloud has just updated its iOS and Android apps today in line with its goals to be the leading destination for users to connect with musicians they’re interested in.

The update brings in a number of improvements starting with the introduction of sets. Sets which are basically user playlists have been available on the company’s website for quite some time now but weren’t fully available in its apps. The update brings in more functionality when it comes to the creation and viewing of sets.

Users can now add any song on the site to their sets directly from the app. Sets will now also show up in the stream of updates from people a user follows in the app. Moreover, users will be able to create sets from scratch, add songs to existing sets and of course share them through various social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or even via email.

Another thing to take note in the update is the apparent departure from the company’s previous efforts to push users into recording and editing audio. The record feature of the app is now less pronounced and is in fact hidden in menus both for the iOS and android app, which probably shows how SoundCloud is putting more emphasis on content listening and sharing.

The apps are now available on Google Play and Apple App’s store.
