Sony Australia to cut jobs

Sony has announced it will be making changes to its sales division and that some staff members will become redundant.

Currently Sony’s business is split into two divisions – the consumer unit – which handles lifestyle products – like cameras, laptops and TVS while Sony Computer Entertainment handles the PlayStation products from games to consoles.

Sony denies the changes are due to the current global economy crisis. A Sony spokeswoman suggested that the reshuffle is about a new vision for the company.

“We have been planning to make some changes to our sales group but it’s more about evolving a strategy that we started last year around aligning our internal structure better to the centralised and decentralised nature of our retail partners,”

It is rumoured that up to 70 staff members could get the axe.

On a global front, Sony HQ recently announced that the company would close 57 factories and lose 16000 jobs in an effort to cut costs.
