Not even Dell, the number 2 manufacturer of computers is immune to the global economic downturn. The company has announced job cuts for the US arm of the brand.

At this stage it’s uncertain whether the company will make job cuts to its Australian staff. The current cuts will affect staff in the Dell assembly plant in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and in Central Texas.

Last year, Dell shed 11,000 staff members in order to overhaul its overheads in the face of the recession – the new cuts continue the company’s efforts to streamline their business.

It is not known whether the company will make further job cuts globally or whether Australian workers will be affected.
