Sonos’ new Play:5 hits Australian shelves on November 25

Sonos' new and improved Play:5 wireless multi-room speaker will be available from Australian retailers starting from November 25. The revamped speaker succeeds the now six-year-old original Play:5, and is compatible with the complete Sonos multi-room ecosystem. It will retail for AUD$749.

Sonos Australia Marketing and Brand Manager Mark Sehler described the new Play:5 as "way more powerful" than its predecessor. The upgraded speaker utilises six synchronised drivers, three side-firing tweeters, and three mid-woofers, each powered by individual amplifiers. The new internal configuration not only results in a louder, more accurate sound, it also provides improved stereo separation.

Sonos does however suggest pairing two together for true stereo sound.

The new Sonos Play:5 also features a new, humidity resistant design, which allows its owner to place it in moist environments such as a bathroom. Physical buttons have been replaced with touch sensitive controls that will automatically adjust to whether the speaker is being used in a horizontal or vertical orientation.

JB Hi-Fi is already taking in-store pre-orders for the new Play:5.
