Shooty Skies is the latest game from the makers of Crossy Road

Shooty Skies is the latest game from Australian Crossy Road creators Matt Hall and Andy Sum, built in partnership with two other local developers, Matt Ditton and Ben Britten. As with Crossy Road, Shooty Skies is a modern take on classic genre updated for the smartphone generation.

As the name suggests, the team – developing under the game Mighty Games – have tackled the shoot 'em up genre popularised by titles such as Space Invaders, Gradius, and Galaxian. Shooty Skies shares a similar aesthetic to the one used in Crossy Road and Pac-Man 256, and is also free to play. Real world money can however be used to purchase new characters.

Shooty Skies' gameplay is simple to learn; the player's character moves with their thumb. While the player's thumb is pressed down, the character keeps shooting. When it is lifted, the character charges up a more powerful shot.

Shooty Skies is available for a free download for iOS devices via the App Store.
