Shakespeare comes to the Nintendo DS

Nintendo are releasing a DS game that features classic literature from Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and Shakespeare.

If you’ve played any of the popular Brain Training games on the Nintendo DS, then you’ll be familiar with holding the hand-held console like a book. It’s comfortable and easy to use.

Nintendo are now taking advantage of that with the release of 100 Classic Book Collection, featuring some of the greatest literature of our time. An excerpt from the announcement is below:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times – the iconic opening line from “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens. Well, now you can definitely enjoy the best of times with Mr Dickens and scores of his fellow writers with the 100 Classic Book Collection on Nintendo DS!

In the one DS cartridge, great titles such as Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass, The Count of Monte Cristo, and The Scarlet Letter are available to read in an e-book style format.

Of course you can’t have classic literature without Shakespeare, and Nintendo have included 21 of the playwright’s contributions to our language. Classic authors like Oscar Wilde, Jules Verne, Jonathan Swift, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edger Allen Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle are included in the one cartridge.

Downloadable content has been announced as well, but there’s no specifics on potential costs or what books will be added in the future.

For any lovers of classic novels, this is a must buy. The only catch is that it’s not available in Australian stores right now. You can order it from Amazon’s UK store however; the link is provided below.
