SanDisk’s new USB Type-C flash drives start at AUD$16.95

SanDisk today announced a new range of USB Type-C compatible flash drives, with an entry-level stick setting customers back AUD$16.95 for 16GB. Dubbed SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C flash drives, the family makes use of the emerging USB Type-C connector which has found popularity on ultrathin notebooks and tablets such as Apple's MacBook, Samsung's TabPro S, HP's Spectre 13, and ASUS' ZenBook 3.

SanDisk says its Ultra USB Type-C flash drives are capable of transfer speeds up to 150MB per second. The drives are also compatible with USB Type-C Android smartphones (including the Nexus 5X, HTC 10, and LG G5) through the use of the SanDisk MemoryZone app.

"We expect to see many new USB Type-C supported devices released in 2016," said SanDisk Country Manage for Australia and New Zealand George Saad. "As more consumers purchase ultra-mobile PCs, smartphones and tablets that feature this new, more advanced USB standard, it is critical to offer a complete ecosystem of compatible products. New offerings, like our SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash Drive, will give consumers the capabilities they’ve come to expect from traditional Type A ports, but with the added benefit of better performance."

SanDisk's Ultra USB Type-C flash drives are available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB, priced at AUD$16.95, AUD$24.95, AUD$39.95, and AUD$69.95 respectively. The drives are available from DCXpert, digiDIRECT, PC Byte, Tech2Go, and Wireless1.
