Apart from wearables, virtual reality is one of the most interesting technologies in the market today. However, the industry is quite young and there are not a lot of companies that have products mature enough for the consumption of the general public. With the exception of Oculus VR and (only recently) Sony, we haven’t seen a VR product that’s close to a commercial release.

Samsung is reportedly planning to change that as news have recently circulated that the Korean tech company is currently working on a virtual reality headset that is set for release sometime within the year.

According to reports, Samsung is fast tracking the development and production of the headset in order to undercut the release of the Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus. Samsung’s VR headset is said to have a lower price and is being developed for mobile devices.

There are also reports that a number of developers are already working on an early version of the headset. However, the reports did not mention how the device will be connected to device and if it will be able to track head movements.
