Samsung testing new battery technology for the coming years

Battery life is one of the biggest selling points of smartphones today, but the technology is getting quite long in the tooth.

Samsung hopes to change that as soon as a year or two from now, according to prolific leaker Evan Blass. Blass says that Samsung is working on graphene battery technology that will allow significantly faster charging – below half an hour from flat to full.

It’s unclear if the overall battery life will increase significantly, but a sub-30 minute charge means your phone won’t be on the charger for long. Additionally, the batteries degrade slower over time, so older devices won’t suffer from shorter battery life.

Blass also adds that cost and capacity are the current limiting factors for the new batteries, but a company like Samsung is the perfect firm to take on the challenge.
