Samsung is making washing machines smarter and faster
Proving that no appliance is safe from the Internet of Things, Samsung has incorporated smart technology into its newest washing machine.
The Samsung WW6850N QuickDrive washer is a compact washing machine that can provide recommendations for wash cycles based on the type of material, colour and degree of soiling inputted to it by its owner. It also allows users to manage the amount of time the washer has to clean clothes, adjusting its cycle accordingly, and can be monitored for performance and maintenance.
Samsung says that the washer is also up to 35% faster than current Samsung models in response to customer demand for shorter washing times.
“When you’ve got a pile of laundry to do, you just want to get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Shane Higby, Vice President, Home Appliance Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. “The introduction of the WW6850N washing machine with QuickDrive technology underscores our commitment to providing consumers with options for tackling their laundry needs to free up time for what really matters.”
Samsung’s new washer also has a companion dryer which can be stacked to take up less floor space than traditional washer/dryer pairings. The washer can also interoperate with Samsung’s SmartThings platform, which is set to unify the smart home under one banner.
Local pricing and availability is yet to be announced, but the washer is expected to make its way to stores later this year.
