Smart watches and other forms of wearable technology are slowly gaining acceptance nowadays, especially to manufacturers of smart devices. Aside from Sony (which already released its smartwatch) and Apple, Samsung is also in the running for making their own wrist-worn smartphone accessory.
And rumour has it that the Korean manufacturer may unveil its smartwatch alongside its flagship phablet – the Galaxy Note III at this year’s IFA. The watch will allegedly be known as the Samsung GEAR and will feature a prominent flexible display and prominent “Android-like” controls.
The details of the smartwatch were uncovered from various patent fillings which describe the device as a watch that communicate data to personal digital assistants, smartphones, tablet PCs, PDA and personal computers through internet websites and other computer and electronic communications networks.
Of course, there’s a huge probability that the device may not materialize at all since most companies file patents only as a means to protect intellectual property rights of technology that they are currently working on or those that they are planning to develop. Nevertheless, the GEAR (if it turns out to be the real thing) will certainly be a great accessory to the Note III, don’t you think?
