Samsung’s smartwatch has long been driving the rumour mills ever since word got out that majority of the major brands in the tech industry is planning to bring some sort of wearable gadget into the mass market.

Today, a few snapshots of the purported smartwatch from Samsung were snagged by the folks from VentureBeat, who apparently got their hands on a prototype device. According to reports, the device sports a 3-inch display, built-in speakers and a 4MP camera packed in a form factor that is slightly larger than a normal-sized wrist watch.

VentureBeat wasn’t able to take live photos of the device but was able to grab a few screen shots of an internal promotional video, wherein the watch shows off its camera, screen and navigational system. Moreover, the watch is said to support Samsung’s S Voice commands and a number of health apps including heart rate, calorie monitors and a pedometer.

Judging by the details of the report, it seems that Samsung is planning to market the device as a health accessory with a few connectivity and social networking functions thrown into the mix. The watch is also said to have a battery life of more than 10 hours on a single charge.

As this is only a prototype unit, there’s no official word yet on pricing and availability, so we’ll just have to wait once Samsung provides its official announcement for the device.
