Samsung’s big announcement is just a few hours away, but the company has already made a few announcements today with the unveiling of the next-generation smartwatches – the Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo.

In case you didn’t notice, the new batch of Samsung wearables have dropped the Galaxy name as well as the Google operating system in favour of a system that’s much closer to home – Tizen.

The Gear 2 packs a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display (320 x 320 pixel resolution) with a dual-core 1GHz processor, a 300mAh battery, a heart rate monitor, an infrared port, a 2MP camera and IP67 water and dust resistance certification.

Samsung is also offering a trimmed-down Neo version that almost has the same specs as the Gear 2 with the exception of the 2MP camera.

Pricing has not been confirmed yet, but Samsung said the two smartwatches should ship sometime in April.
