Brisbane City Council workers were blocked from accessing sex education and cartoons whilst Queensland Transport employees were banned from viewing weather pages as they were classified as ‘entertainment’.

Some employers even went so far as to block internet banking sites whilst Queensland Health staff claimed it was easier to fax (sometimes confidential) reports than wait for the approval to email material with medical terminology or images.

Electronic Frontiers Australia spokesman Nicolas Suzar, said the “net nannies” used at work were a good indication of what home internet users could expect after mandatory filters were introduced.
