In response to the XBox 360 Pro going large, Sony have finally announced an on sale date for their new 80GB PS3.

The new 80GB Playstation 3 console, which was announced at E3 in July will be replacing the current 40 GB model and is slated to hit shelves on August 28.

The new version of the PS3 offers double the storage to accommodate more games, movies, graphics, music, photos and other entertainment content – all at the same recommended retail price of $699.

The console will also ship with a DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller.

Michael Ephraim, Managing Director SCE Aust. and New Zealand believes the console already has a tight hold on the gaming marketplace in Australia. “Having achieved an install base of over 350,000 consoles to date, the PS3 has already found its place in many Australian homes,”

He believes the addition of extra storage and more content will soon make the PS# an invaluable entertainment device in most family homes.
“In addition, the 80GB memory allows you consolidate all of your digital music, photos and movies in one central place within the home and experience them on a high definition TV. Add to this the ability to enjoy Blu-ray movies and games and it’s clear why the PS3 has earned its place as the leading entertainment hub in today’s home.”
