After complaints from privacy groups, Yahoo has agreed to shorten the time that it holds onto users’ personal data.
Yahoo have released a statement saying:
“Yahoo! will anonymise user log data within 90 days with limited exceptions for fraud, security and legal obligations.”
Yahoo’s move to lessen the amount of time that they hold user data follows in line with Google, who recently cut the period of time it olds data from 18 months to nine months.
Meanwhile Microsoft has suggested it will reduce the time it holds users data to six months if other internet firms agreed to do so.
Yahoo said there would be “specific and limited exceptions” to the 90-day rule “in order to fight fraud and preserve system security.”
