Pokémon Go out in Australia for iOS and Android

In order to evolve Pokémon, players need to catch the same critter multiple times to obtain a prescribed amount of "candy". At launch, Pokémon Go only features the original 151 Pokémon.

Gamers can battle other players by walking to "Gyms". Rather than using Pokémon's tried-and-true turn-based battle system, combat relies on tapping and swiping to attack and dodge.

Pokémon Go is free to play, but select items are available as in-app purchase.

It's worth noting that Pokémon Go's heavy reliance on a smartphone's GPS and rear-facing camera can result in heavy battery drain.
