Pentax announces the Australian release of their Pentax MX-1 digital compact camera.
The MX-1 features an optical zoom lens with a large maximum aperture and wide-angle coverage that allows photographers flexibility when taking photos and manually adding effects.it also provides a 1cm macro mode to capture close-up images and an intelligent zoom function to extend the zoom coverage up to approximately 7.8x without compromising image quality.
Moreover, the MX-1 has a newly designed back-illuminated CMOS image sensor. The top sensitivity of the camera is set at ISO 12800 which reduces noise to deliver high-resolution images. The MX-1 also uses an imaging engine that utilises Super Resolution technology to produce high quality images with well-defined images.
This camera also features several software improvements and other nifty functions such as a dedicated exposure compensation dial, dual shake-reduction system, Handheld Night snap mode that helps in capturing blur-free night-time images and a host of other SLR-standard features to enhance operability.
The MX-1 is also able to capture full HD-standard videos. It has a dedicated movie recording button and even offers creative movie capture modes such as High-speed Movie mode for slow motion playback and a Time-lapse mode for fast-forward playback.

In terms of design, the MX-1 sports a classic look that is reminiscent of film cameras. It has a textured-rubber grip, and brass top and bottom panels that develop a distinctive appearance after years of use. Other notable exterior features of the camera include its metallic lens ring, a pop-up auto flash and a large tilt-table high definition LCD monitor.
