Optus Launchs iPhone midnight Thursday

Thanks to our time zone, Australians will be amongst the first to sample Apple’s new 3G iPhone. Mobile carrier, Optus plan to hold a launch party, kicking off on Thursday at 10pm at the Optus George St Store, with Gaustina Agolley aka Fuzzy playing host.

Customers that have pre-registered through Optus for the iPhone will be able to buy the new iPhone from midnight. The rest of the nation will get access to the iPhone from 7am Friday.

The iPhone will retail at $729 for the 8GB phone, and $849 for the 16GB model.

Telstra and Vodafone will also release the phone for sale on Friday.
