Nokia today confirmed that the Amber update for its Windows-powered Lumia devices will soon roll out that will enable a number of features to other Lumia handsets.
The update will bring improved image processing, noise reduction, colour reproduction, exposure control, autofocus and better low-light performance to other Lumia phones to help them be at par with the company’s current flagship device – the Lumia 1020.
Nokia will also be bringing its Smart Camera app with the amber update. The feature which is already present on the Lumia 925 and 1020 brings a number of different options that enhance the photo shooting experience of a user. Some of the features of the app include:
- Best Shot – finds the sharpest image from a series of 10 shots
- Action Shot – combines several shots of people in movement into one image
- Motion Focus – heighten the appearance of speed by blurring the background
- Change Faces – creates ideal group shots by choosing the best faces from a series or remove unwanted objects from pictures.
Aside from the camera upgrade, Amber will also bring the new Glance Screen functionality to other Lumia devices. This new feature will display a clock, battery meter and informs users when the phone is in silent, even when the phone is locked.
The Amber update also makes use of the phone’s various sensors to change the settings of the phone, including the ability to activate silent mode by simply flipping the device or waking and unlocking the phone by double tapping the screen.
Nokia Lumia owners can check if the update is already available for their phones by going to settings and then going to the Phone Updates section.
