Nokia Comp Hopes To Spur Innovation

For the third year in a row, Nokia has set up a competition for people to create applications for its mobile devices.

Calling All Innovators is a competition run by Nokia that is in its third year, which calls on developers to create applications and services that will enhance the use of mobile devices in real-world scenarios.

Calling All Innovators 2010 has four submission categories:

  • Eco/being green: apps that help to save the planet with innovative, eco-friendly uses.
  • Productivity: apps that make people’s lives easier by helping them to be more efficient
such as utilities, business, or personal finance applications.
  • Life improvement: apps that have a positive effect on people living in developing countries
e.g. applications that teach children and illiterate adults critical skills, and agriculture.
  • Entertainment: apps that show off the coolest multimedia features including music and
    games.

Forum Nokia has teamed up with Sesame Workshop, the producers of Sesame Street, to form a sub category under “life improvement” called “education”. The aim of this category is to encourage developers to create and offer applications that teach early literacy on Nokia devices to communities around the world.

Sesame Workshop will offer guidance during the judging process and work with select developers to further enhance relevant projects.

More details about all the categories for Calling All Innovators, special prizes and judges can be found at: www.callingallinnovators.com.

Calling All Innovators submissions will be accepted from the 1st February 2010. The closing date is the 18th May 2010.
