Nintendo’s sales and profitability problems aren’t really a secret in the industry, so the company’s executives have decided to point their efforts in another direction.

According to reports, Nintendo has decided that it will start specifically building consoles for emerging markets. To be more specific, the company will be targeting those with lower incomes and less gaming experience such as those in emerging markets like China and India.

At present, none of the company’s consoles are sold in these countries, so implementing this strategy might actually work for Nintendo especially with the two countries’ massive consumer base. Moreover, Nintendo will also working on a new software to come with these new consoles as explained by the company’s CEO Satoru Iwata in an interview with Reuters.

Now whether this new strategies would help the Japanese manufacturer remains uncertain. But with sales of its flagship product continuing to decline overtime, it wouldn’t hurt to try something different this time.
