Nintendo today announced it will launch Miitomo – its first ever app for smartphones and tablets. The app arrives on stores tomorrow, and is a “free-to-start” social experience using Mii characters.
After downloading the app, you can create a Mii or import one from your Wii U or 3DS system. Once the Mii is ready, you can add friends who have the app via Facebook or Twitter accounts.
Miitomo is something of a social game where players answer questions about themselves like, “What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten,” or “If you were given 10 grand to spend in one day, what would you do?” The answers are shared between your friends; part of the fun is meant to be finding out new facts about them.
Also launching tomorrow is a My Nintendo rewards program – points can be earned by using Nintendo services or purchasing digital games from the Nintendo eShop, and redeemed for extra content and discount coupons.
Miitomo is the first in a line of Nintendo experiences coming to mobiles. Later in the year, Nintendo is expected to launch a more substantial mobile experience with Pokémon GO.
