Apparently, Nikon thinks this is a good idea though, as the Japanese company has filed a patent for a technology that would make camera-tossing photography a real and easy thing.
Camera-tossing is quite difficult to pull off. You’d need the shutter to fire off just as it reaches its apex and facing the right direction- not to mention the big risk of it shattering all over the ground.
Nikon is working on a new feature to put in its compact and mirrorless camerasthat would use an accelerometer to detect the trajectory of a throw and snap photos at the right moment.
Also, the company is planning to incorporate some protection landing features to avoid actually destroying the camera. After the camera snaps the photos, it could retract the lens automatically.
